The Neutral Corner - Becoming a
judge/referee
Great
Australian amateur boxers deserve great Australian judges and referees. Why not
be one of them?
Any
adult (male or female) can undertake a short course and practical
training sessions to develop the skill of judging amateur boxing bouts.
After supervised practice at several tournaments, you can become a
judge for tournaments in your state/territory. Opportunities for
progression to Australian, Continental or World (AIBA) accreditation
are
readily available.
Those with suitable mobility/fitness who wish
to train as referees can do so after they have been judging for a
modest period of time.
Boxing Australia is in the process of developing a new
Accreditation Pathway for judges and referees. This is expected to be
in place before the end of 2008. The DRAFT accreditation policy is
available here; is it expected to be ratified by BAI shortly. You can also download a flowchart version of the judge pathway and the referee pathway.
Want to talk to us about it? Contact the national R&J Committee
via email from the Feedback
page.
Please note, we cannot assist you to become an official with professional
boxing. Boxing Australia ONLY deals with amateur (Olympic-style)
boxing. Our judges and referees cannot officiate at professional
boxing events or vice versa.
