Australian Team announced for 2025 World Boxing Championships

Australia will send an aspiring squad of fighters to the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool in September as a mix of experienced Olympians and next generation step out to represent their country on the global stage. 

The team has been selected to compete across a range of weight divisions from September 4-14 at the M&S Bank Arena, marking the first elite-level global event for World Boxing, the new International Federation that has ensured boxing remains at the heart of the Olympic Games.

Boxing Australia CEO Dinah Glykidis congratulated all the athletes, saying they were primed to build on the sport’s historic results in Paris and take important first steps ahead of next year’s Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

“This is an exciting group we believe can deliver some strong results for Australia in Liverpool later this year,” Glykidis said.

“It’s also an investment in the future and we can’t wait to go on a journey with these athletes as we head towards a Commonwealth Games in 2026 and the next Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028.”

Boxing Australia have selected and conditionally selected athletes who have demonstrated the ability to achieve the following outcomes:

Priority 1: To identify for selection those boxers who will achieve Podium-level results for Australia at the 2025 World Boxing Championships.

Priority 2: To identify for selection those boxers who demonstrate potential for top eight performances at the 2025 World Boxing Championships, Podium-level results at future events including the 2026 Commonwealth Games, 2027 World Boxing Championships and 2028 Olympic Games.

The team will commence their preparation with the World Boxing Cup event in Kazakhstan followed by a pre-departure camp in Canberra in August, before heading to Glasgow for a training camp ahead of the Championships in Liverpool.
