At the conclusion of a robust consultative process with member associations and the approval of the Boxing Australia Board of Directors, Boxing Australia is excited to confirm the 2026 Boxing Australia Selection event to be held at the AIS Bruce campus in Canberra commencing January 20, 2026, for all Youth and Elite Female athletes and February 7-13, 2026, for Elite Male Boxers.
The 2026 Boxing Australia Selection event will provide Boxers with the opportunity to gain selection to an athlete pool for all national team activity for 2026. The 2026 Commonwealth Games team will also be finalised at this event in the selected weight divisions which are yet to be confirmed.
Boxing Australia have listened to Member associations and stakeholders as well as aligning to the HP strategy and What it Takes to Win, and the event will be run in a round robin format with a maximum of 6 athletes per weight division. This will guaranteed Boxers a minimum of 5 bouts, providing exceptional value for money. This will also create and increase head-to-head boxing opportunities for all invited athletes.
The 2026 Selection event for Elite athletes will be run as an invitation event with the top 4 athletes per weight division from the 2025 National Championship gaining automatic entry and two further positions invited through the BAL entry process. The only athletes who will be grated exemption from the 2025 national championships are those who won medals at the 2025 World Boxing Championships and those competing in the invite only World Boxing Cup Final in India.
The 2026 Youth Selection event will be run in a traditional elimination format with MA’s selecting up to two Boxers per weight division. Youth Boxers can gain selection to the 2026 Boxing Australia Youth National Team for the period until the 2026 Schools Nationals. 2026 Schools nationals will serve as the selection event for the 2026 World Boxing Youth Championships and 2026 IOC Youth Olympic Games. (Policies to follow in January 2026)
Athletes will receive invitations immediately post the 2025 National Championships .
