About Jericho Dale

Published Wed 02 Nov 2022

I am the 2nd youngest in my family of 6 children (3 boys and 3 girls). Whilst living in Broome for four years, I trained at Red Earth Martial Arts which incorporated Cacoy Doce Pares Eskrima style. Spending much of my youth living by the beach in Ulladulla NSW, I became a keen surfer before taking up boxing. Living in Darwin for the past two years has allowed me to become a qualified lifeguard and compete in local and State surf club events.

What are your strengths as both and athlete and a person

My strengths are that I have strong self-belief and a positive mindset. I also have confidence in my skills and abilities.

What are you looking forward to most at the world championships

I am looking forward to representing Australia and competing at an international level against the best youth boxers in the world.

What has your daily routine looked like before the world championships

My daily routine is to wake up and go for a run before going to school. I then come home in the afternoon and relax before going to boxing training in the evening. My day finishes with a big dinner and a well-earned sleep.

What are you focusing on improving on at the moment

I am focusing on making sure that I am in peak physical and mental condition ahead of the competition.

What are your preferred pre and post bout routine

My pre-bout routine is to eat Subway, relax and prepare myself mentally. After the bout, I normally eat KFC and chill with my boxing mates.

What are your goals as a boxer

My goals as a boxer are to one day represent Australia at the Commonwealth Games and Olympics.

What is one important lesson you’ve learned as your time as an athlete

The most important lesson that I have learnt is that what you put in is what you get out.

Tell us about a time you were faced with a challenge and had to overcome it

My first boxing bout, which occurred in Fiji against an experienced Fijian boxer, was incredibly challenging for me. To overcome this challenge I had to dig deep, believe in my skills and abilities and to have strong self-belief that I would succeed against my opponent.

What drives you to get up in the morning and got to training everyday

I know that my hard work will pay off because to be a successful athlete you need to train hard every day.

Do you have any advice to young people wanting to start a career in boxing

My advice is that boxing is an excellent sport which will help you improve physical fitness and teach you discipline.
