BAL High Performance Technical Lead confirms departure

Boxing Australia would like to acknowledge the resignation of Santiago Nieva from his role as High Performance Technical Lead who will return to India to coach their Women's team.

Mr Nieva served as the Boxing Australia High Performance Technical Lead from January 1, 2025, after Boxing Australia took back the High-Performance Program from Combat AUS. Coach Nieva had previously been employed by Combat AUS since 2022 acting as Head Coach.
 
Coach Nieva worked with Boxing Australia accredited personal coaches to deliver 2 medals at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games as well as 3 medals at the most recent World Boxing Championships in Liverpool and World Boxing Cup Finals in India.
 
Boxing Australia benefited this past year with Coach Nieva's ability to travel internationally for long periods of time and are grateful for the work completed in setting the HP program for future success.
 
Boxing Australia will pause and review potential coaching structures before moving to recruit and look forward to building a contemporary High-Performance Program with key stakeholders the Australian Institute of Sport in the lead up to the 2026 and 2030 Commonwealth Games and 2028 and 2032 Olympic Games
