Selection Criteria for Australian Team to 2022 Elite Women’s World Championships
The Selection Tournament for the Australian Team to the 2022 Elite Women’s World Championships will be conducted 17-20 March in Melbourne in association with the Selection Tournament for the Australia 2022 Commonwealth Games Team and a tournament for elite men boxers competing in non- 2022 Commonwealth Games Australian Team designated weight categories. The competitions in the 4 Elite Women’s weight categories common to the Selection Tournament for the Australian Team to the 2022 Commonwealth Games and the Selection Tournament for the Australian Team to the 2022 Elite Women’s World Championships will only be contested once but will be considered as competition bouts in both tournaments i.e. the winners of these weight categories will be considered for selection to both the Australian Team to the Commonwealth Games and the Australian Team to the Elite Women’s World Championships.
Member Associations are eligible to enter 2 boxers in every weight category in the 3 tournaments to be conducted 17-20 March in Melbourne – that is, the Selection Tournament for the Australian Team to the 2022 Commonwealth Games, the Selection Tournament for the Australian Team to the 2022 Elite Women’s World Championships, and the tournament for elite men boxers competing in the weight categories that are not being considered for nomination of boxers to Commonwealth Games Australia for the Australian Team to Birmingham.
The close of entry date for boxers to these tournaments will be advised shortly.
Please be aware that the law in Victoria presently, and it is anticipated it will still be in effect for the period 17-20 March next, mandates it is necessary for a person to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 to gain entry to an event such as these boxing tournaments in a venue such as the Whitehorse Club where they will be conducted. Accordingly, boxers, coaches, ring officials and the public will be required to prove they are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 to gain admittance to the competition venue. This requirement will be non-negotiable. It is understood that fully vaccinated means that if a person has had an anti-covid vaccine that requires 2 doses to be fully effective then they will be required to prove they have had 2 doses of that vaccine.
And, please note the requirement in the Selection Criteria for boxers recommended for selection to the Australian Team to the 2022 Elite Women’s World Championships to pay $2,500 to Boxing Australia by 23 April, 2022, to assist in meeting the costs of air travel, accommodation, meals and outfitting to be incurred in their competing in the World Championships – Boxing Australia will meet the costs in excess of this amount.
