User-Pay International Tournaments Guidelines

Boxing Australia understands the importance of boxers, coaches and RJs accessing international tournaments and events to gain experience and exposure. Due to Boxing Australia’s limited funds, we are not able to provide a large number of participants these opportunities.

This document outlines the processes of how individual boxers, clubs, combined teams or state and territory Member Associations can access IBA Star international tournaments within a user-pay environment (NOTE: This isn’t for World Championships, Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games or Oceania Championships).

1. Process

Each tournament will often send National Federations (such as Boxing Australia) a tournament invite months prior to the event being conducted. Generally most tournaments require a National Federation to submit their Preliminary Entry details 4-8 weeks prior to the event. Final Entry details are then required 4 weeks prior to the event.

Bearing this in mind, any individual boxer, club or Member Association should complete and submit the ‘International Tournament Request’ to Boxing Australia eight weeks prior to the event.

2. Request Moderation

On receiving a submission, Boxing Australia will evaluate the tournament standard and whether it is appropriate for the relevant delegation to attend (i.e. the host country isn’t banned, the boxers are registered with a member association, the boxers are up to the international standard, etc).

Upon multiple requests for the same event and same weight categories, Boxing Australia will moderate in priority order which boxer should attend this event. This order will take in consideration:

  • Whether they are NASP categorised
  • Their last performance at a National Event
  • Their commitment and ability to self-fund

3. Moderation Panel

The athlete categorisation moderation panel will be used. With regards to RJ moderation, Boxing Australia’s RJ Committee Chairman will be consulted to provide a recommendation if required.

4. Selection

Given these events are IBA Star tournaments, the boxers will be competing under ‘Boxing Australia’s’ banner, not their club, state or territory. Boxing Australia will have priority to any events over a request if they are sending a High Performance Team.

Boxing Australia will complete the ‘Final Team Entry’ with the relevant boxers, officials and logistical details, and submit it to the tournament organisers.

5. Requirements

Each member of the delegation that has been selected or grant permission to attend the relevant tournament will be required to adhere to the following:

  • Pay for their own domestic and international flights
  • Organise and pay for their own travel visas (if applicable)
  • Pay for their own accommodation to the tournament organisers
  • Pay for their own food
  • Pay for their own travel insurance
  • Abide by Boxing Australia’s Code of Conduct
  • Abide by IBA’s Technical and Competition Rules
  • Have an appropriate qualified coach (IBA Star Certification)
  • Have an appropriate qualified RJ (IBA Star Certification)
  • Wear the appropriate competition uniforms (IBA regulations)
  • Wear the appropriate team uniforms

6. Uniforms

Each member of team delegation should be wearing the following in the below circumstances:

  • Travel (arrival & departure) – Team Tracksuit
  • Competition (boxer) – appropriate corner colours singlet & shorts
  • Competition (coach) – Team Tracksuit and Polo
  • Competition (RJ) – Black pants, black shoes, black belt, white shirt, black bow-tie and accreditation badge

7. Referee & Judges

Most IBA Star Tournaments now have the requirement of providing or sending a RJ if you have entered boxers within the tournament. On submitting an ‘International Tournament Request’ you should consider this factor. Your entry maybe rejected if you don’t submit or provide an RJ.
