Amendments to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Nomination Criteria

Following the postponement of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and 2020 World Qualification Event, Boxing Australia has amended the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Nomination Criteria. The amendments to the criteria are:

  • Definition of ‘Nomination Date’ changed to 30 June 2021 (from 1 June 2020). This is given the final world qualifier has been set for May-June 2021 (exact dates and location TBC);
  • Definition of ‘World Olympic Qualification Event’ to mean the World Olympic Qualification Event, to be held May-June 2021 (exact dates and location TBC);
  • 5(c) adjusted to reflect updated age limits. Boxers eligible can now be ‘born between 1 January 1980 and 31 December 2002’
  • 6.8(a) amended to allow for the Nomination Panel, when nominating boxers to compete at the World Olympic Qualification Event, to consider ‘recent domestic competition performances, including performances at the Pre-Selection event, any BAL National elite championships in 2020/21 and in potential sparring and/or box-offs (if applicable and required by the Nomination Panel) up to 31 March 2021’
