Boxing Australia Incorporate Indigenous Art into the National Team Uniform

Published Tue 16 Jun 2020

Boxing Australia (BAL) has commissioned two Indigenous former Australian representative Boxers, Paul Fleming (2008 Olympics, 2007 World Championships) and Brad Hore (2000 & 2004 Olympics, 2002 & 2006 Commonwealth Games, 2005 World Championships), to create artworks for use as the National Team competition uniform design. The artworks will be incorporated into the red and blue competition singlets and shorts that are used in international competitions by the BAL National Team.

BAL has a proud history of Indigenous Olympians, boasting the most of any sport with 19, soon to be 20 following Alex Winwood’s qualification to the Tokyo Olympics at the Asia-Oceania Qualification Event in March.

Brad and Paul have used their experience as elite athletes to re-connect with their local communities after their amateur careers. Brad educates Indigenous youth on the importance of making positive life choices, while Paul works at a Western Sydney school as an Aboriginal Education Officer, connecting with young Indigenous kids and teaching them about Aboriginal culture.
